HOBART TALK ABOUT YOUR LIFE WITH CARROLL AND YOUR FAMILY (mother and father).

WHEN CARROLL WAS OLD ENOUGH TO DRIVE THE KID WAGON TO SCHOOL, HE WOULD GET UP EARLY AND BUILD A FIRE AND WARM SOME BRICKS FOR THE STRAW UNDER THE WAGON SO THE CHILDREN WOULD KEEP WARMER. WHEN HE REACHED SCHOOL, HE WOULD STAKE THE HORSES AND WATER AND FEED THEM AT NOON. THE TEACHER WOULD EXCUSE HIM EARLY SO HE COULD GET THE WAGON READY TO GO HOME.

CARROLL GRADUATED FROM JORDAN HIGH SCHOOL AND THEN WENT TO THE AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE FOR ONE YEAR AND ON A MISSION FOR THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS IN SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA FOR THREE YEARS.

THIS LITTLE STORY IS TAKEN FROM CARROLL’S PERSONAL LIFE HISTORY;

“WHEN ELDER SALAMON AND I WERE SENT UP TO ESCONDIDO, THE MISSIONARIES BEFORE US AHD BEEN NOTIFIED TO LEAVE BEFORE MORNING! THEN WE WERE THE NEXT MISSIONARIES TO GO AND SEE IF WE COULD ORGANIZE A BRANCH. WE DIDN’T GET ANYWHERE FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS, PEOPLE WOULDN’T LISTEN TO US. SO, AFTER RECEIVING SOME BAD NEWS FROM HOME, THE LETTER TOLD ME I WOULD HAVE TO GO ON “PURSE OR SCRIPT,” FOR THE MONEY THAT WAS BEING SENT TO ME WOULD GO FOR HOSPITAL BILLS. IT WAS AGAINST THE LAW IN CALIFORNIA TO GO ON “PURSE OR SCRIPT”, I TOLD MY MISSIONARY COMPANION WE SHOULD HAVE A WORD OF PRAYER. HE SAID, “I HAVE MONEY.” ON THE WAY HOME FROM THE POST OFFICE, I KICKED OVER SOME WEEDS AND THERE LAID MONEY ROLLED UP IN AN ELASTIC BAND. SO WE TURNED AROUND AND IN THE NEWSPAPER WE ADVERTISED THAT IF ANYONE HAD LOST ANY MONEY THAT THEY COULD CONTACT THE MORMON MISSIONARIES. WHENEVER WE WENT TO ANY HOMES, THE PEOPLE WOULD SAY, “YOU ARE THE MORMON MISSIONARIES, THAT FOUND THE MONEY.” I WOULD SAY TO THEM, “WHEN ANYONE COULD IDENTIFY THE EXACT AMOUNT OF MONEY, I WOULD GIVE IT TO THEM.” SO WHEN CONFERENCE CAME TO SAN DIEGO, I TOLD THE LEADERS OF THE EXPERIENCE WE HAD AND PRESIDENT GEORGE ALBERT SMITH SPOKE UP AND SAID, “YOU COULD GO AHEAD AND USE THAT MONEY, NO BODY IS GOING TO CALL FOR IT.” WE HAD NO MORE TROUBLE WITH THE ESCONDIDO PEOPLE. THEY HAD FOUND OUT THAT WE WERE HONEST.

CARROLL’S SISTER, MARY GUNDERSON, INTRODUCED HIM TO HER NURSE FRIEND EMA FORD FROM CENTERVILLE, UTAH. THEY WERE MARRIED ON MAY 8, 1933, IN THE SALT LAKE CITY TEMPLE IN UTAH AND WERE MARRIED FOR 37 (THIRTY-SEVEN) YEARS. THEY SHARED A GOOD RELIGIOUS AND HAPY LIFE WITH THEIR SEVEN CHILDREN NAMELY:
