We have three sources of Stay names located in Brockenhurst,Hampshire. The Richard Stoy who is listed in the Swainscote records, the Stays listed in the Parish records, and the Stays listed in the Recusant records. The recusant records are listed in the House of Lords files pertaining to the Catholic families, or families who were not in harmony with the Church of England in the1650s/1680s. We need to see if we can find other information about these individuals.

We note that the parish records do not continue any listingof Stays after those listed in the study, thus they either moved or the family died out. It appears that a Richard Stay may well be from Brockenhurst and is the Richard Stay the elder noted in the property lease on Vaggs Lane and that he had moved to the Hordle parish and lived in the Arnewood area which is the northern part of the Hordle parish.
