Assigned family Coordinator: Name: Larry Stay has expressed an interest in this topic Address: Telephone: E-mail address: At this time, we have not identified the place where the family left from in England, it would normally be assumed that they left from Liverpool. There last known residence in England was Cheltenham. QUESTIONS TO BE ANSWERED REGARDING THIS TOPIC 1. We need the date that they left England. 2. We need the name of the ship. 3. If we know the name of the ship perhaps we can find diaries of others on the ship that will tell of the circumstances of the voyage. As well as there may be references to the Stay family. 4. The port of entry (most likely New York). However we need to look at other ports. No boats are recorded to have left Liverpool late in 1858. Emigration from European countries was relatively small during 1858, because of the continuance of unsettled conditions in the territory, brought about by Johnston's army. Also fear about the Civil War and the impendingt conflict. On the list are 50 members who arrived in New York with no ship being recorded. These saints could have been on any ship that arrived late in the year of 1858. The ship Wm. Tappscott with 725 members arrived in New York on April 11, 1859 (we need to double check that the family was not on that ship. 6. How long did they live in the New York Area, or was it just a transit en route to St.5. It appears that it may have been New York due to Sarah meeting and marrying Charles Vought a New York Policeman. Louis? 7. How did they get from New York to St. Louis, type of transportation, time, route? [BACK] |
